We found the perfect realtor for our mom’s move to independent living. Our 92-year-old mother lived in a beautiful high-rise condominium in downtown Bellevue. She loved living there until she and her husband could no longer safely drive. Once we sold their cars, they felt trapped. Without the freedom to drive, their beautiful condo with fantastic views lost its luster and they felt somewhat alienated among their primarily younger building neighbors. My wife and sister asked our mom to tour with them to see some independent living communities around the east side. Our mother reluctantly agreed to go along. They looked at several communities before stopping in for a tour of the Watermark Independent Living Community in downtown Bellevue. Once our mom toured this beautiful new facility, she fell in love with it. She immediately put down a deposit on a unit with an amazing view and large deck. Now they’ve been there two months, and I could go on and on about how much she and her husband love being there and all the new friends they have met, but this is a review about an amazing realtor. First, I want to preface this review by saying I have a very good friend that has sold more north Lake Washington waterfront property than anyone else for over 30 years and I would always give him priority with any of my real estate dealing. However, Watermark recommended Laura Henderson, and our mom liked her. So, we gave Laura a thorough interview. After we talked with her and heard about how she was recommended by Watermark because of how she works with elderly people that may have the majority of their financial worth wrapped up in their homes. She has made it her mission to try to help these seniors to retain as much from their equity as they can. These are the things Laura told us she would do for our mom and her husband. • Arrange for a space planner to meet with our mom to determine what will fit in the new smaller space and what needs to be donated or disposed of. • Arrange for everything that will be moved to the new unit to be packed up and labeled.• Arrange for family and friends to take whatever is not going to be moved then donate what is left or dispose of it.• Replace the carpets, repaint the walls.• The movers moved our mom and her husband and set everything up while she and her husband stayed two days in a guest suite in the Watermark, without having to lift a finger in the move.• Stage the condo with furniture and fixtures that are conducive to a potential buyer being able to envision what their furniture would look like. • Arrange and provide marketing photos and list the property. Here is the bottom line: Laura arranged everything. The condo was listed for above the price of the last comparable sale of a similar condo in the same building. The first day the listing came out there were two buyers willing to pay all cash for above the asking price. From the time our mom first toured Watermark to the day the condo sold and after they were already moved in and settled into their new home was less than 2 months. Laura made it so easy.
